Crime & Justice in California: A Panel Discussion

WPP will be hosting “Crime & Justice in California: A Panel Discussion” this WEDNESDAY, MARCH 17th from 12 NOON- 2PM* in LC 159.
*There will be a short 2 minute break at 1 o’clock to allow those of you who need to leave to depart without disrupting discussion.
Featured panelists are:
+Dr. David Farabee of UCLA, a researcher on drug-offenders and parole effectiveness,
+Amy Ashvanian, JD, a criminal prosecutor in Los Angeles,
+Javier Stauring of the Office of Restorative Justice of the Archdiocese of Los Angeles,
+Judge Steven S. Alm of the first circuit felony criminal division of Hawaii State Judiciary and a proponent of the HOPE program, and
+Patricia Wenskunas of Crime Victim’s Untied of California & CEO of Crime Survivors, Inc.
Each speaker will give a 10 minute presentation on their perspectives on what issues are most important regarding crime and justice in California, their efforts in public policy (be it research, prosecution, legislative efforts like CVUC, or instituting COPE-the California version of HOPE) regarding crime, and potential solutions of prison overcrowding in California.
After that we will have another 30-40 minutes of discussion both between the panelists and the audience.
